If you read my last post, you know that I just competed in my first NPC Bikini Fitness competition (spoiler: I won my category 😀 ). To get ready for my show, I ate a LOT of this delicious and easy turkey chili.
Not only does it have really good nutritional values, some people also believe that the hot chilies help raise your metabolism so you burn more calories. I don’t know if I believe that, as the scientific evidence isn’t very conclusive, but every little bit helps right?
I always have some Easy Turkey Chili in the freezer
For me, the main benefit of this easy turkey chili is how quick it is to make and that I can store a large batch in the fridge or freezer so I always have a nutritional and tasty meal ready on short notice.
Another great thing about this recipe is how easy it is to modify depending on your mood and meal plan. If you are in the mood for spicy food, just double the number of chilies and get ready to feel your body temperature go through the roof. If you are in a gentler mood, leave the chilies out and add some spices like thyme or basil to turn it into a tasty meat sauce.
The modification I made most often before my show was to leave the beans out and cut back on the tomatoes to reduce the carbs, but that was only because I was on a super strict meal plan. Normally, I would always leave them in.
No matter how you make it, turkey chili is an awesome dish, so give it a try next time you want something quick and healthy!
I love this easy turkey chili recipe because it’s so quick to make, tasty, and has great nutritional values.
- 16 oz. (450 g) ground turkey (93%)
- 1 jalapeño
- 1 red chili
- 1 can of chopped tomatoes
- 3 oz. (80 g) cooked black beans (can be from a can)
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 3.5 oz. (100 g) onion
- ½ cup chicken stock (or just use ½ Knorr bouillon cube)
- 1 tsp. paprika
- 1 tsp. salt and pepper
- ½ red bell pepper
- 1 tbsp. chives
- 4 tbsp. fat-free sour cream
Chop Jalapeño, red chili, onion and garlic and sauté on a hot pan until the onions become translucent (about 2-4 minutes). If you want to reduce the heat of the chilies a little, you can remove the seeds
Add turkey to the pan, mix everything together and let it all cook for another 5 minutes
Add tomatoes, black beans, chicken stock and spices and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes
Chop your red bell pepper and chives while the chili simmers
Add peppers to the chili and let it cook for another 2 minutes
Serve with chopped chives and sour cream on top
